mary blair
I really liked the Google doodle today and evidently it was to celebrate the birthday of Mary Blair. I had no idea who she was. Turns out she was an illustrator for Disney. I did a Google image search and found such pretty things!
i heart playdoh
I really love playing with playdoh. It is somehow super relaxing. Etta wants to be The Pigeon for Halloween so stay tuned for how that turns out....

burning house
I came across this website via epicurious - strange. It's kind of fun but kind of sad at the same time.
Let's each do it! Humans and kitties excluded. By the weekend. 12-15 items, GO!

File this in the category of "things I want for my future dream beach house".I don't know what made me go to the Fishs Eddy site today. I miss that store.

oh i am so sad. i missed two very important weddings this summer. my cousin, michelle's and my oldest friend, emily's. emily just posted photos from their truro, cape cod wedding and they are sooo.. lovely. PHOTOS HERE. there's definitely a parallel here to your wedding (cape + blue!) :)comic sans
i find this hilarious. randall and i are always ragging on the overuse of comic sans and papyrus. seriously - every salon and massage place uses papyrus.delirious
ny times article on cctvrem koolhaas and steven holl are, i think, my two favorite architects. (even though they are starchitects.)

this might be my new favorite site...opal apples
does your supermarket have bright yellow opal apples? we just bought some for the first time and they were SO good. sweet and tart at the same time.
beer + food
so this is from over a month ago..i've been meaning to post it. for jay's birthday i threw him a little party and decided to have a kind of oktoberfest them - basically because i wanted to make pretzels. i made these soft pretzels [from martha adapted by smitten kitchen], apple strudel [without the prunes] and spaetzle served with wilted spinach from martha and a bunch of german sausages from trader joe's. the pretzels were really good and disappeared quickly. next i want to try bagels.
photo shoot::sneak peek
i had a photo shoot last friday at one of my projects and the photographer just sent over these four preview images. i am DYING to see the rest!
food
over the weekend i made the granola bars for stacey and ben (and me) from smitten kitchen. i made two variations. one was oats, cranberries, currents, almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, cashew butter, honey, and vanilla. the second had all those plus pecans, chocolate chips and coconut. i like the second for the added sweetness plus the fact that i made it in a 9x9 pan instead of a 9x13. the smaller pan made the bars thicker and therefore sturdier. they both are pretty crumbly! i also made a few pizzas on saturday, one of which was her shaved asparagus pizza. it was soo good. my peeler was terrible for the job, though because the little scooper is proud of the blade, allowing me only to shave 2/3 of the stalk at best. still tasty!next year...
ugh, wish i had the foresight to make these yesterday! i am currently browsing for something to make with chocolate + coconut. but next year i will make these, trevor would love them.Posted by

thank you cards
more etta art transformed. i took some of her paintings, cut them into uneven strips, glued them on cards and used them as thank you notes for christmas gifts.

valentines
we made valentines yesterday which will of course be arriving a little late in people's mailboxes but oh well. i made heart stamps out of some corks and etta stamped with paint onto pink paper. i cut that and a bunch of other papers into hearts and then sewed them onto the cards. sewing paper is WAY fun. i did some other cards where i "appliqued" the hearts on with a zigzag stitch.
ps. champagne or beer corks seem to work better than wine corks. the knobby end was easier for etta to hold. the corks cut pretty easily with an exacto and the denser the cork the better - like the pink heart in the pic.

i LOVE this site! it's so bright and cheery - just what i needed to see after a week of nothing but grey, rainy northwest days.
i really want this dachshund poster.

button button
i happened upon this awesome store, button button, while we were exploring vancouver. they have TONS of buttons - i could have spent an hour in there. i got some orphan buttons for 10cents each [they are arranged by color in drawers like the red ones in the pic], some cool orange ones and a 1lb grab bag of mystery buttons for $4! i think buttons might be a new obsession for me.
